There have been many releases coming out of the east documenting tapes from Pink Floyd's In The Flesh tour, this being the fourth release in the past month (Pigs Fly Over America, Welcome To The Machine and Racial Violence being the other three). It is indeed a classic tour and the last time that the band truly toured the United States and Have A Cigar represents the final Boston concert with Roger Waters in the band. This is a superb sounding stereo audience recording made by the same one who made the second tape source of the 1975 show at the same venue.
Previous releases of this show include The Perfect Day on Ayanami, but this comes from the complete and unprocessed master that has recently been circulating. It is better sounding and longer than any other and is the definitive version of a spectacular show that is definitely worth having. This is Pink Floyd after touring for several months, so they are extremely tight, but before their frustrations began to surface in the New York concerts the following week. Waters shouts out "48" during "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" and comments at the end "The perfect end to a perfect day".

Comments: Source 1 of 2. Another stellar show, excellent sound. This comes from the 1st generation tape of the great performance in Rotterdam.

This is Pink Floyd at their best! It has less hiss than other tapes commonly in circulation. SQ is easily VG+ or EX-. Except where noted below, it includes complete and sometimes rather lengthy tuneups between tracks. I really like this concert since it includes Pictish rants during 'A Saucerful Of Secrets'. The concert itself is also quite long with some interesting jams and gong bashing!
This is an essential roio. Any "serious" Pink Floyd collectors should have this.

Ah, forget about any other version of this show. Forget even about the nice tracks from the Omay Yad LP. Straight from a 1st Generation Reel, comparing it to the other versions around wouldn't be fair for the other releases, because this never sounded as good as it does with this version. You wont find a better version of this concert till the master reels gets transferred. And as if this wasn't enough, now we can hear Green is the Colour, Careful and Saucerful which werent available till today. It gets a bit distorted on the louder parts but it's absolutely listenable and the definition is still very good, I can live with that. Bass is really good but lacks a bit of highs, still, it has excellent brightness and definition overall. Another source with better highs would make a better difference even.

My favorite version of "Tunnel of Love" listen for Mark to throw in bits of "Stop in the Name of Love" and "Ghost Riders in the Sky".
This is one of the best Dire Straits shows available from this tour, and a more complete version than some that I have seen.

Jimi Hendrix & Traffic: A Session (Studio) .shn

jh-session-f
jh-session-b
A purely instrumental affair, alternately dated as 1968 or 1970, this studio material is among the most intriguing unreleased pieces of either performer. The lineup is listed as Jimi Hendrix (guitar), Steve Winwood (piano), Chris Wood (flute), Rick Grech (bass), and Jim Capaldi (drums), but the actual lineup of these recordings is uncertain. Only Hendrix is identifiable with certainty. The overall sound resembles Traffic, and the piano and flute parts seem particularly recognizable as Steve and Chris, respectively.
The music on this cd consists of jams that, in contrast to Traffic's usual melodic sensibilities, range from minor key to almost atonal structure. Some of the magic of the "Voodoo Chile" session is also evident on this recording. The jams sound basically spontaneous, organized around particular keys with shifting tempos, and lack a distinct song structure. None of them sound like they were even intended to have vocal parts. For the most part, the piano and drums drive the rhythms while the guitar and flute solo. The extraordinary aspect of the recording is the complementary interplay between Jimi and Chris. While Jimi builds upon driving vamps that eventually erupt into molten solos, Chris counterbalances with his usual delicate, mellowing flute. The result of this collaboration is at least interesting, and sometimes magical. Unlike other Hendrix jam sessions, Jimi seems to have a lot of respect for Traffic and doesn't fully dominate the proceedings, which makes the session perhaps unique to both entities.
This bootleg CD consists of three jams of excellent quality studio recordings. The insert states that the session "was recorded at an unknown place in the late 60's". Credits are Jimi Hendrix (guitar), Chris Wood (flute and saxophone), Jim Capaldi (drums), and Steve Winwood (organ). In the book Jimi Hendrix: Electric Gypsy (1995), by Harry Shapiro and Caesar Glebbeek, the well researched discography section lists the CD as released in late 1990, and recorded in 1968 or 1969.

Montrose: Live at the Record Plant 1974 (Soundboard) FLAC

montrosefcover
montrosebcover
A superb Soundboard or FM broadcast featuring the mighty Montrose, a fantastic American 70's hard rock band featuring Ronnie Montrose and Sammy Hagar. The performance venue is confirmed from band banter heard between tracks, as is the personnel.
The concert does not appear to have a live audience (due to lack of any applause) and resembles a band playing a warm up session in preparation for an upcoming gig.
The performance is amazing, as is the sound quality and I was so pleased to get my hands on the CD back in the 90's, as Montrose live material is as rare has Rocking Horse Sh*t. Somehow this band didn't seem to get the recognition they deserve despite delivering one of the all time great debut albums "Montrose" on Warner Bros.

Pearl Jam: Gossman Project (early Ten demos) 1991 (FLAC)

Temple_of_the_Dog_Band_Shot
Stone Gossard Demo '91
This tape is the earliest evidence of Pearl Jam around. Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, and Jeff Ament recorded a set of instrumental demos during the Temple of the Dog sessions with Matt Cameron (then with Soundgarden) in 1990 with the intention to find a new drummer and vocalist for this musical project.
While working on the Temple of the Dog project, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament recorded a set of instrumental demos in August 1990 (known as the "Gossman Project"). Soundgarden's Matt Cameron contributed drums to ten of the tracks, and Shadow's Chris Friel contributed to two: "Times of Trouble" and "Black". Stone and Jeff shopped the tape (with working titles only) around to various connections including the Wilder Brothers in Los Angeles. They hit paydirt after giving part of the demo (known as the "Stone Gossard Demo '91") to former Red Hot Chili Peppers' drummer Jack Irons.
Featuring "Alive", "Once", "Footsteps", "Black", and "Alone", the Stone Gossard Demo was given by Irons to his basketball buddy Eddie Vedder in late September. While surfing, Ed came up with the lyrics to the song "Dollar Short". Using his 4-track recorder, Vedder layed down vocals for "Alive" (his title for "Dollar Short"), "Once" and "Footsteps". He compiled the songs onto the "Mamasan" tape and sent them back up to Seattle. Mike, Stone, Jeff and new recruit Dave Krusen loved Vedder instantly and enlisted him in the band.
The unnamed band began recording immediately upon Vedder's arrival. From October 8 through October 23, 1990 the group worked on their first demo tape. Taking the moniker Mookie Blaylock from a basketball trading card found in the demo tape package, the newly formed band performed their first live show on October 22 at Seattle's Off Ramp Cafe.
So what are all of these tapes? Eddie made several copies of the demo DAT (also known as the First Week Rehearsal demo) onto old R&B tapes and gave gave them to friends. While it's possible Mookie Blaylock recorded more than one demo tape, only the First Week Rehearsal demo has been verified. In the spring of 1991, Mookie Blaylock/Pearl Jam began recording "Ten" at Seattle's London Bridge Studios.
Some of these pre-"Ten" sessions leaked into the fan community...
The band:
Stone Gossard: guitar
Mike McCready: guitar
Jeff Ament: bass
Matt Cameron: drums
Chris Friel: drums on tracks 4 and 10

Track List:
1. The King (would become Even Flow)
2. Dollar Short (would become Alive)
3. Richard's 'E' (would become Alone)
4. 'E' Ballad (would become Black)
5. ? (Untitled - never released)
6. Weird 'A' (would become Animal)
7. 7Up (would become Pushin' Forward Back)
8. Doobie 'E' (would become Breath)
9. Agytian Crave (would become Once)
10. Times of Trouble (would become Footsteps) (this song also appears on Temple of the Dog with the same title)
11. Evil 'E' (would become Girl)
12. Folk 'D' (never released)

LP Reference: Pink Floyd (KP339-KP344)
I'll introduce Hakone which is the legendary place to Pink Floyd's fans in Japan.
Hakone is to the southwest of Tokyo and it takes 2 hours from Tokyo by car. Many people visit there and enjoy playing golf and tennis, and sightseeing.
The open-air concert entitled "'71 Hakone Aphrodite" was held at the open space called "Seikei Gakuen Jofudai " by Lake Ashi on Aug.6 & 7, 1971. It is said that 30,000 people gathered there.
Pink Floyd appeared in the evening (6:00 pm) on Aug.6, 1971 and played "Atom Heart Mother", "Green is the colour", "Careful With That Axe, Eugene", "Echoes", "Cymbaline" and "A Saucerful Of Secrets".
It's hard to tell exactly what songs that come from which date, but Fingals Tape Guide has this info:
August 6: Green is the Colour, CWTAE, Echoes, Cymbaline
August 7: Atom Heart Mother, Green is the Colour, CWTAE, Saucerful of Secrets

Van Halen: Zero Demos 1976 (FLAC)

Zero consists of the Gene Simmons produced 1976 Van Halen Demo tape.
1976-xx-xx Zero Demos
zero_new_large
zero_back_new_large
Sort of a lost album. Nice quality, good recordings, a few of which would be re-recorded and released over the first couple of albums. Some others were forgotten and yet one in particular, "She's the Woman", was tranformed years later from the party-good-time-chick rocker it was into the gritty-nasty-harsh-reality of "Mean Streets". Yea, those were not happy times in the VH camp.
But these evidently were the good times. Young & hungry and in search of that contract...
Source was very nice, just needed the touch-ups for my ears to give it the proper attention it deserved.
Many people have heard the two tracks from this demo, "House Of Pain" and "Runnin' With the Devil", and have commented that the tone is very different than the WB demos and eventual pressed versions. This is extremely evident throughout this set of demos. Eddie's guitar tone is far from what it was to become and there are several instances of multiple guitar overdubs. In some cases, there are as many as three guitar tracks at one time and some solos are actually laid over one another at times.
Dave's vocal delivery is dramatically different on many tracks such as "Babe, Don't Leave Me Alone" and "Somebody Get Me a Doctor".
