And so to the conclusion of The Beatles as a performing group (although some might argue the end really came a year or more earlier) – all the circulating shows from their final tour of the U.S.A.
While this may be a delight for completists, the last show at San Francisco is the only decent sounding recording here (and not such a bad performance either, relatively speaking). Also of note is the 'cherry bomb' explosion heard halfway through "If I Needed Someone" from the Memphis evening show. Otherwise it's slim pickings, pop pickers.
We've done our best to make everything sound as good as possible - speed correction, a little eq, and more (but never any compression or noise reduction!) We even used a source for the San Francisco show without the digital reverb appearing on most releases of this concert.
It's not all that pretty, but this is it – the end of The Beatles live. (Unless you count the Rooftop Concert – and that's on A/B Road if you still need to find it!)

Argentinian people who live in the capital city are really lucky 'cos we have the opportunity to record almost all the Argentinian concerts from the radio. That's because the owner of R&P international (the company which brings almost all the international bands) is the owner of R&P radio station.

Pink Floyd: Rhapsody In Pink (BBC) FLAC

Released in 1990, this is the collection of material to hunt for if you're looking for unreleased Floyd from the post-Barrett, pre-Dark Side era. Bootleg fidelity doesn't come any better than this; it's one of the very few occasions where you could argue that the sound may actually be better than most official releases. These BBC airshots from the late '60s and early '70s focus on rather obscure material: "Julia Dream," "If," "Green Is the Colour," "Embryo," and the never-released "Murderistic Women" (a blueprint for "Careful With That Axe, Eugene").There are also full-bore workouts of "Echoes" and "Atom Heart Mother Suite" that, depending on one's taste, could be argued to exceed the officially issued versions.

OU Notes: For years, I worked in a record store and we sold used CDs. It was part of a big national chain, which really limited what we could take from customers, and one guy tried to sell me this Pearl Jam radio promo. We couldn't take it and, as often happened, the customer just left it at the store. I recently found it again after going through some stuff and decided to put it up here. I don't know why the promo/recording exist exactly - if the station recorded it from the live broadcast, or if it was recorded by the station for a later broadcast, or something else. But the recording is very nice and had pretty nice packaging, with a full artwork digipak and art on the discs. The tracklisting on the back was pretty bad, though, with some blank spots for the then-unreleased songs, some songs given incorrect titles, and disc 2 listing 15 tracks but having only 12 (as you can see below, there are three tracks with 2 songs each in the second half of the show). These are the liner notes:
"All Praise to Pearl Jam. Ticket sales of 34,818 make their November 4, 1995 concert the biggest event in the 62-year history of Spartan Stadium. Long live vitalogy!
Above all, we are obliged to the listeners of KOME for showing alternative rock that there is, in fact, a way to San Jose - and to the campus of San Jose State.

1975 saw Jimmy finally bring the Coral Reefer Band on the road. Beginning March 5 in Key West, Jimmy finally had a band. No new album was ready, but songs from what would become “Havana Daydreamin’” made it into the set list anyway. Stops include a show at Gilley’s nighclub outside of Houston in February, the infamous show where Jimmy opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd in Tucson on May 14, two shows opening for Roger McGuinn at the Bottom Line in New York in June, a July 4th show at the “A Day in the Sun” event at Parade Stadium in Minneapolis, a show opening for Grinderswitch in Corpus Christi in August, and the Wild West Music fest in Austin, Texas, were Jimmy was second on the bill to Waylon Jennings. Jimmy had only one radio show this year, a KSAN broadcast from the Boarding House in San Francisco, CA on September 10. Returning East, Jimmy opened for the Earl Scruggs Revue at Villanova University on September 20 before heading south again for stops that included a show at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL opening for Linda Ronstadt, a show at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN opening for Jerry Jeff Walker, and a rare outdoor show in November at the USF Soccer Field in St. Petersburg, FL that saw the Reefers play through temperatures in the 40’s.

1975 was an interesting year in Buffett Set Lists. The Year saw a milestone as Jimmy put together and toured with the first true version of the Coral Reefer Band. This band worked up a few gems along the way, performing full-band renditions “Stories We Could Tell,” “Presents to Send You,” and “Door Number Three,” among others. As the year progressed Jimmy added songs he was working on for the then titled next album “Second Wind.” These include “Big Rig,” “Kick It In Second Wind,” “Please Take Your Drunken 15 year old Girlfriend Home,” and “Train to Dixieland,” all of which there is no other known live versions of.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
This is a High Definition video which can be burned to a standard DVD-R or DVD+R blank disc. The resulting disc can only be played in compatible Blu-Ray devices such as a standalone Blu-Ray player, Playstation 3, or BD-ROM drive. This cannot be played in any DVD player, including some DVD-ROM drives, after it's been burned. However, the files can always be dumped back onto a computer hard-drive after it's been burned with any DVD-ROM or BD-ROM drive. For computer playback, you must have the appropriate hardware and software applications. At a minimum, you will need a 2.0Ghz Dual Core CPU with at least 256MB of graphics memory. There is also the option of recording to a solid-state memory card (SDHC, Memory Stick), then played from many Blu-Ray disc players, PS3, or select Panasonic HDTV's.

PLEASE NOTE:
Your standalone Blu-Ray player must be capable of AVCHD playback. Most Blu-Ray players are capable of doing this. If you live in a country which uses the PAL format, you must check to make sure that your player and HDTV is compatible with the 60Hz, 29.970 frame rate.
Please consult your owner's manual(s).

BURNING INFORMATION:
Any tool to burn a disk will do, but it must be able to burn a DVD using the UDF 2.50 file system. The UDF 2.60 file system is also acceptable. Nero Burning ROM can do this starting from version 7. You can also use free tools like ImgBurn, which can be downloaded from www.imgburn.com.

Great Canadian show filmed in november 1983 for the meeting of the legendary Dr John-Johnny Winter!
The station was located in Hamilton Ontario, and they were famous for featuring many of the greats including Freddie and Albert King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, as well as Canadian acts like The Phantoms, Jeff Healy, Dutch Mason, etc.

OU Notes: Hey everybody, here´s something for Rock- and Bluesfans!
This is Rory Gallagher´s performance from the 2nd British Rockmeeting in Germersheim, Insel Grün, Germany(near Heidelberg), plus some very nice short cuts(everything I have included), recorded early 70´s in Germany!
This is my first Rory Gallagher compilation!
Amoung the more than 40 acts on this 2nd British Rockmeeting in southern Germany, were Pink Floyd, Wishbone Ash, Uriah Heep, Humble Pie, Kinks, Family and many more. The Bands played from Friday May 20th to Monday May 22nd 1972!
Rory played Monday afternoon, his set was, beside Lindisfarne, the only set broadcasted!(incomplete, ca. 40 mins)

People from other countries hardly could imagine, how popular Rory was here in the earlyer 70´s.......... I saw him there for the first time, and he really did a great and intense performance! He was so good, we couldn t hardly wait for his next show, scheduled for Autumn 1972!
He was the only artist to give 3 encores in Germersheim.... I added 5 tracks he played live acc., in a German FM Radio studio, plus 3 tracks from a really superp audience tape recorded in Ludwigsburg 3/72! (recorded by taper "U",one of the best tapers I found here, for this period!

Ps. I`m proud to say that I attented this festival as a fifteen year old boy! It´s unbelievabale, but the organizers had to change the area for the festival several times in the last moments and one possible area was just 3 km from the small town I grew up! Since my mother saw no way to keep me away from something like that in the neighbourhood, she was prepaired enough to let me go another 20 km, finally!
Enjoy this great piece of history!

Band Info:
The Dead Kennedys were an American punk band from the first wave of American punk rock, formed in San Francisco, California in 1978. Pioneers of hardcore punk during the 1980s, the band gained a large underground following in the international punk music scene.
The music of the Dead Kennedys mixed the more experimental elements of British 1970s punk with the raw energy of the 1980s American hardcore punk scene. Dead Kennedys' songs mix the deliberately shocking lyrics of punk with a humorous, acerbic, satirical, and sarcastic left-wing commentary on current social and political issues. Many of the band's songs criticized the right-wing ideologies of the Christian right, the Presidency of Ronald Reagan, U.S. foreign policy, and consumerist culture.
In the late 1980s, the band was embroiled in an obscenity trial in the US over the 1985 Frankenchrist album, which included a poster with art that depicted penises (Penis Landscape by H. R. Giger). The band was charged criminally with distribution of harmful matter to minors, but the trial ended with a hung jury.
The band officially disbanded in 1986. From 1998-2004, the band was embroiled in an acrimonious lawsuit over royalties and rights to the band's music. In 2001, the band re-formed and began touring with a new vocalist over the objections of former lead singer Jello Biafra, who, after losing the lawsuit and being found liable for fraud, filed two appeals that he later lost.

Remarks: In July 1987 Sting interrupted the recording sessions for the album Nothing Like The Sun and travelled to Italy to perform at the "Umbria Jazz 87 Festival" together with Gil Evans and his band on 11-07-1987. This became one of Sting's most special performances. Besides jazzy versions of his own songs also various cover versions were performed, including two compositions by Jimi Hendrix (Up From The Skies and Little Wing).
On March 20, 1988 Gil Evans died at the age of 75 after complications during an operation in Mexico. This was about eight months after the show in Perugia.
The quality of this recording is excellent (a very clear soundboard recording).

Sting: "I met Gil Evans one night in Ronnie Scott's club in London. He'd been a hero of mine since I was fifteen. He reminded me of one of those wise elders from Star Trek who are the only survivors of a planet after some holocaust, the sole guardians of all the knowledge of their race. I went backstage after the show and introduce myself and was amazed and flattered that he ever heard of me. He told me he liked the bass line of Walking On The Moon. I went home on cloud nine. I sang with his band a couple of years later in a little club in Greenwich Village called Sweet Basil. His fifteen-piece band was crammed onto the tiny stage so there was no room for me. So, I sang on the floor, squashed between two tables. One day I aspire to the stage. Anyway, we did three songs together. One by Tony Williams, called There Comes A Time, and two songs by Jimi Hendrix that Gil has performed for years, Little Wing and Up From The Skies" (lyric-book Nothing Like The Sun).

Sting: "We had a great time, so I said, 'Why don't you come down to Montserrat and we'll work out a set?' He came down to Montserrat where we were recording, and sat in on a session and gave me a few hints about arranging. It was really cool, and we got a set together of an hour's worth of material. [...] He arranged five of my songs. We did Little Wing. He's just a great guy to have around. I was having a problem with one song, I was concentrating on one note that I didn't think was right, and he said, 'Come outside.' He said, 'It's not the note you think it is, it's the note before. If you get that one right, then this one will carry on.' 'I don't think so, Gil.' 'Try it.' He was right. Of course, he knows his shit. He was encouraging, and soopen for a man of his age." The early-'70s rock outfit Elf is best-known as the group that gave singer Ronnie James Dio his start and he would eventually set his sights on a tougher, metallic sound, fronting the likes of Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and his own solo band, Dio. The group went through several name changes in the late '60s (the Electric Elves, the Elves), before settling simply on Elf and issuing a self-titled debut recording for Epic in 1972, produced by Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover. The group's best-known lineup consisted of Dio (who was at this time going by his real name, Ronald Padavona, and also doubling on bass), guitarist David Feinstein, guitarist/keyboardist Micky Lee Soule, and drummer Gary Driscoll. The album went largely unnoticed, as did the group's subsequent two other releases, L.A./59 (issued under the title Carolina Country Ball outside of the U.S.) and Trying to Burn the Sun, as the group guested on Roger Glover's 1974 album The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast. Through their affiliation with Glover, Elf was brought to the attention of former Purple leader/guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, who invited the entire group (sans their guitarist) to join forces as the prog metal outfit Rainbow, resulting in the release of a self-titled effort in 1975. Slowly but surely, however, Rainbow turned out to be nothing more than a solo vehicle for Blackmore rather than a true band and the former Elf members left the group one by one before Dio was the last one remaining until eventually leaving the group himself in 1978.

This was recorded in early 1972, shortly after the band dropped the name "The Elves" and became "Elf", and not long before recording the first album. The sound quality is amazing, a lot of covers as well as unreleased material, and what's more: Ronnie James Dio covering "War Pigs" more than 7 years before joining Black Sabbath!!!

And now…a true legend, Sir Paul McCartney! I was never really into The Beatles but you know what, what an amazing performance. Just after 10pm, he takes the stage, and I felt very privileged to be there. The stage was awesome with a cool screen in the back and the sides with humongous portrait screens; did I mention they were huge? Wow. As soon as they started with “Jet” I knew this would be the best performance of the weekend. The sound was so perfect, hats off to the sound guys. I actually recognized a lot of the songs. It was an emotional night for Paul, that night marked the 11th anniversary of Linda’s passing. I will have to say, that was probably my favorite song of the night. Oh and the drummer was amazing! He rocked!

This recording is brilliant, and it doesn't get much better than this.
Both Blackmore and Dio are really on top form in this show, and Blackmores guitar playing is exceptional.
Sound quality 9/10 (you can hear a little bit of tape hiss when listening with headphones on, and the only thing stopping it being 10/10)

"Echoes Of The Stage" Pink Floyd was in the middle of their second American Tour of 1975. They had just finished two shows at the Nassau Coliseum before arriving at the Boston Garden in Massachusetts. This tour would feature much of the new material that was to be released later that year on their new album Wish You Were Here. The tracks for the album were actually recorded between the tours. Versions of ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond –parts 6-9’ were played during the 1974 French and British tours but the audience in Boston on June 18th was going to hear the full song, parts 1 through 9, including the bridging song ‘Have a Cigar’ during the first half of the show. Two other unreleased songs were also part of the set list at this time. The first was called ‘Raving and Drooling’. This song begins the concert and later becomes ‘Sheep’ for the Animals album, released in 1977. ‘You Gotta Be Crazy’ is performed next and also finds itself on the Animals album, re-titled as ‘Dogs’. The remainder of the material for this concert is from Dark Side of the Moon with Echoes as an encore.
The Year 1975 was a difficult time for the members of Pink Floyd. During an Interview in October of that year, Roger Waters was asked why it took two years for the band to make another album after Dark Side of the Moon. The response: “There was an abortive attempt to make an album without using any musical instruments. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but it didn't come together. Probably because we needed to stop for a bit…. [I]
think it was that when Dark Side of the Moon was so successful, it was the end of the road. We'd reached the point we'd all been aiming for ever since we were teenagers and there was really nothing more to do in terms of rock 'n roll….. And Wish You Were Here came about by us going on in spite of the fact we'd finished”.
Despite apparently reaching artistic satisfaction the group went on to make Wish You Were Here. Waters noted, “We did some rehearsals in a rehearsal studio in Kings Cross, and started playing together and writing in the way we'd written a lot of things before. In the same way that 'Echoes' was written. 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' was written, with odd little musical ideas coming out of various people. The first one, the main phrase, came from Dave, the first loud guitar phrase you can hear on the album was the starting point and we worked from there until we had the various parts of 'Shine On' finished. When we got into the studio, January '75, we started recording and it got very laborious and tortured, and everybody seemed to be very bored by the whole thing. We pressed on regardless…..”
Most fans believe that the song ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ is about former band member Syd Barrett. When asked about this, Roger said, “It was very strange. The lyrics were written -- and the lyrics are the bit of the song about Syd, the rest of it could be about anything -- I don't [know] why I started writing those lyrics about Syd...I think because that phrase of Dave's was an extremely mournful kind of sound and it just...I haven't a clue ... but it was a long time before the Wish You Were Here recording sessions when Syd's state could be seen as being symbolic of the general state of the group, i.e. very fragmented…. By taking 'Shine On' as a starting point, and wanting to write something to do with 'Shine On' i.e. something to do with a person succumbing to the pressures of life in general and rock 'n roll in particular...”
This was the type of feeling that would later cause Roger Waters to leave the band permanently. However, further hints of dissatisfaction lingered even during this time. When asked if Pink Floyd would perform live again, he responded, “I've really no idea...not unless something fairly stupendous happens. I've been through a period when I've not wished to do any concerts with the Floyd ever again. I felt that very strongly, but the last few weeks I've had vague kind of flickerings, feeling that I could maybe have a play. But when those flickerings hit the front of my mind I cast myself back into how f___ing dreadful I felt on the last American Tour with all those thousands and thousands and thousands of drunken kids smashing each other to pieces. I felt dreadful because it had nothing to do with us -- I didn't think there was any contact between us and them.“
This last sentiment was the motivation for one of the band’s most well known works The Wall. Roger Waters and the band did go on to play more concerts but their mood and feelings continued. Some say that they were the defining influences on their songwriting at the time. 
Notes from the Re-Master
The recording we used for this project is generally known as the “second source” or the Boston Garden Master. There is a well circulated copy of this source available but our copy of the source came straight from the master cassette. The owner of this cassette is a good friend of one of PRRP’s contributors. The music fan who contributed the source for our Boston Yes show from 1979 (PRRP 028) and Providence Yes show from 1977 (PRRP 034) was able to get us a fresh new copy of this master cassette tape. Many thanks to him for his efforts.
The project actually started with a remastering of the common version of the Boston Garden Master. Once the new version became available, a second remaster was produced and we compared the quality of the two remastered recordings. It was concluded that the source and remaster from the new master was clearly the better recording.
The major problem with the recording was the tonality. Both guitar solos and saxophone leads were harsh and un-enjoyable. At the same time, the baseline tonality of the show during quiet and low volume segments seemed to be balanced. The solution was to use a frequency specific dynamic filter that would adjust tonality during these harsh segments. Other adjustments were made to enhance the detail as well as the sub-bass components. A light hiss reduction was used to remove this noise and both clicks and pops were removed manually where needed. After working with both sources it was clear that there were few imperfections in the better master source. Dynamics were enhanced throughout the show as necessary. After the first set,
Roger Waters says that the band will take a break. We decided to end disc one at that point and to place all of set two plus the Echoes encore on disc two. This decision does result in two CDs with very different lengths but it is consistent with the performance which we felt was most important.

I have tried to broaden the scope a bit here and judging by the comments that you are posting I am finding something for many of your musical tastes. By the way, I really appreciate the comments. Some of you say thanks all the time (that's appreciated but not really necessary), some of you add memories from the shows or the band members, some comment on the quality, some just download and listen - it's all good to me. I really enjoy this sharing and when you made personal well wishes for my wife I was absolutely blown away by the kindness expressed by our community here. You really revitalized me and encouraged me to increase my efforts!

To computer (23 years later) via: cr7a Nakamichi cassette (with azmuth adjust) to SBM1 Sony Super Bit Mapper A>D converter to digi in on Linx-one studio card (spdif).
Recorded in Soundforge and mastered with CD architect to CD to SHN.
My cassettes have held up over the years better than the master reels of these shows. The master 1/4" reels (recorded on Ampex 456 grand master tape)
would need to be literally "baked" in order to squeeze out one final play as the oxide flakes off the tape!

Bob Seger: Lookin' Back: The Box (Mostly Studio) FLAC

Any kind of demos, outtakes or roughs by Bob Seger are exceedingly rare. You just don't find them. This three disc set is extremely unusual. For one thing, there are at least three variants. The earliest was a four disc set, but a lot of material was subsequently released officially, so those tracks were dropped for this set. Reportedly, there's also a two disc digipak which drops "The Box" from the title. I haven't seen either of these, but I'd certainly love copies.
The earliest of these tracks probably dates to 1973-74, but the vast majority of them stretch from the early eighties through the mid nineties. All of which combines to make this set exciting and desirable.

Southern Masters Live (Various Artists & Very Good Sources) FLAC

OU Notes: This double CD set is a pure pleasure to listen to. Only the best soundboard, FM or pre-FM sources were used, and some of the tracks sound as if they'd come directly from the studio. (Particularly brilliant is the copy of the Outlaws' "Green Grass and High Tides", which sounds like a commercial release--of course, it was recorded in front of a small live audience at the Record Plant in Sausalito in 1975 as part of the Record Plant broadcasts, all of which have incredible sound.) Some may argue about either the songs or groups included, but the determining factor here was sound quality, which is extremely high.
The choice of a 1973 version of the Allman Brothers' "Ramblin' Man" seems obvious--but no Duane Allman? The version of "Jessica", an Allman Brothers' tune done by Betts, Hall, Leavell and Trucks is totally recognizable and yet infused with a jazz edge which really sets it off. Another question is the inclusion of Blackfoot's "Highway Song" instead of "Train, Train", but that's just personal preference. Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell In Love" with Mickey Hart on lead vocals is fantastic--but he only performed with Elvin for a relatively short time before moving on to Jefferson Starship/Starship. Another brilliant choice was Henry Paul Band's "Grey Ghost". This performance of a song devoted to lost southern rockers by a former member of the Outlaws is not only relatively rare in this quality, it's well worth downloading the entire album. Including Little Feat's "Dixie Chicken" from their 1976 tour is a bit of a stretch--until you listen to the lyrics. We lost a great deal when Lowell George died. The Marshall Tucker Band's "Can't You See" is great--but I'd still have preferred "Heard It In A Love Song". Decent recordings of the Rossington-Collins Band are also hard to come by, and no wonder--I once went to one of their concerts in which they only managed three songs before Dale passed out. The most surprising (and interesting) track is the version of the classic "Statesboro Blues" by the jazz-oriented Sea Level (led by the Allman Brothers' Chuck Leavell), where entire guitar solos are replaced by horn and/or woodwind solos! And it works. It was also nice to see Wet Willie included--Jimmy Hall, the leader, later moved on to the Charlie Daniels Band.
All in all, the most disappointing thing about this incredible album was the complete lack of anything by Molly Hatchet. The word is that a decent copy of the band with Danny Joe Brown as lead singer just couldn't be found, and as they wanted to include either "Gator Country" or "Flirtin' With Disaster", using one with Farrar doing the lead vocals was rejected. I can see the point--can you imagine a "Hard Rock Masters" CD using a track with Sammy Hagar doing "Runnin' With the Devil"? Diamond Dave owns that tune, vocally.
