Van Halen: Zero Demos 1976 (FLAC)

Zero consists of the Gene Simmons produced 1976 Van Halen Demo tape.

Sort of a lost album. Nice quality, good recordings, a few of which would be re-recorded and released over the first couple of albums. Some others were forgotten and yet one in particular, "She's the Woman", was tranformed years later from the party-good-time-chick rocker it was into the gritty-nasty-harsh-reality of "Mean Streets". Yea, those were not happy times in the VH camp.
But these evidently were the good times. Young & hungry and in search of that contract...
Source was very nice, just needed the touch-ups for my ears to give it the proper attention it deserved.
Many people have heard the two tracks from this demo, "House Of Pain" and "Runnin' With the Devil", and have commented that the tone is very different than the WB demos and eventual pressed versions. This is extremely evident throughout this set of demos. Eddie's guitar tone is far from what it was to become and there are several instances of multiple guitar overdubs. In some cases, there are as many as three guitar tracks at one time and some solos are actually laid over one another at times.
Dave's vocal delivery is dramatically different on many tracks such as "Babe, Don't Leave Me Alone" and "Somebody Get Me a Doctor".

It's always interesting to hear very early Van Halen - thanks for the post.

As always, your the best. I always make sure to click on the ads every visit. I especially love the Prince and Fleetwood Mac posts, but you can NEVER go wrong with Van Halen.

Thanks to you I now have an uncompressed version of these demos. You are simply the best! Any DLR solo stuff?
